How to Increase Student Engagement

January 27, 2016 by Wise Guys Leave a Comment

It's hard to compete with cell phones, video games, tablets, you name it! Here's our tips for how to increase student engagement in upper elementary.

How to Increase Student Engagement

It is hard to compete with cell phones, video games, Facebook, and television when you are a teacher. Students’ attention spans seem about as short as a snapchat photo. What can teachers do? Is there any salvation out there?

The number one thing that all teachers should do from the moment that first bell rings is engage their students. Greet the students outside your classroom door. Have a welcome message displayed in the room. Make sure to engage them right from the start. This could be a simple interest inventory or a cooperative task. The key is to show students that they will be active participants in their learning.

Student Engagement Cards

Luckily, you came to the right blog post at the right time! We have created an amazing resource that will give you 25, yes 25, different ways to engage your students in learning that is not the traditional lecture or even cooperative group method.

Each card contains a student engagement activity that is sure to be a hit with your students. On each colorful card there is a spot called “Activity Overview” which explains how to do the activity. Then there is also an area on the bottom of the card that actually details an example of how to use it in a classroom.

Take a look at some samples below!
