How to Increase Student Engagement
It is hard to compete with cell phones, video games, Facebook, and television when you are a teacher. Students’ attention spans seem about as short as a snapchat photo. What can teachers do? Is there any salvation out there?
The number one thing that all teachers should do from the moment that first bell rings is engage their students. Greet the students outside your classroom door. Have a welcome message displayed in the room. Make sure to engage them right from the start. This could be a simple interest inventory or a cooperative task. The key is to show students that they will be active participants in their learning.
